The Cairo Collection is inspired by a trip I made with my husband to Egypt where we visited the ancient ruins of the Kings and Queens. We stayed in the ancient city of Cairo, visited dinosaur whale bones in the Valley of the Whales, visited Luxor, Karnak, the Giza ruins, the Valley of the Kings and a lovely bohemian oasis called Faiyum.
The energy is palpable in Egypt: streets buzzing night and day, beautiful calls to prayer coming from local mosques and the bright smiles of friendly locals.
I remember strong shifts of energy overcoming my body in certain places very clearly. The Royal Mummies' Hall at the Cairo Museum made my head spin moments after entering the space. I remember leaving the room and feeling a cooling sensation come back into my body.
The other instance where I felt a strong energy shift was in Valley of the Kings outside Luxor upon entering the tomb of Seti I. We were the only people in the tomb and as we descended down into the last chamber the absence of sound became more and more apparent, creating a pulsating gong noise in our ears, the effects felt in the entire body.
These sacred places, the painstaking intention put into their construction, and the souls of the people who ruled here can be felt in a very real way. Every ruin and city we visited left a lingering effect on us. I experienced something magical and healing, although extremely intense.
These pieces are inspired by the movement of energy that I experienced in these wonderful places. They are inspired by the texture on the walls of the ruins and by the colors of the pigments made by minerals and gemstones still vibrant and alive after thousands of years. They are inspired by the way my being felt transported to other times and dimensions where the sacred was still the center of the society.
My hope is that these pieces can carry some of this meaning and that they serve as an amulet and a reminder to keep the sacred with you at all times no matter where you are.
These pieces are made with bi-color, green and indicolite tourmaline stones and are set in 14k gold. They mimic the shapes, colors and textures that I experienced while on my adventures.
